Troubleshooting & FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions regarding unpublished draft changes, domain whitelisting errors, base image resolution, and hotspot rendering performance.

Why don't my draft changes appear in the live embedded map?

Public links and embeds serve published snapshots. When you make edits in the editor, click the "Publish" button in the top navigation bar to deploy your changes to production.

How do I prevent other websites from embedding my map?

In Map Settings > Embedding, enter your allowed domain hostnames (e.g., example.com). The embed script verifies parent.origin and rejects embedding from unlisted domains.

What is the recommended resolution for base floorplan images?

For crisp zoom clarity, upload images at least 2500x1500 pixels. For large architectural blueprints or stadium layouts, 6000px+ images are supported and tiled automatically with Deep Zoom.

Can I display my map in multiple languages or auto-detect a visitor's language?

Yes! Layerpin provides native multi-language translation for markers, boundary zones, categories, and custom fields across 16 languages. You can configure a public language selector dropdown, auto-detect visitor browser locales, or force a dialect using the ?lang= URL parameter. Read the full walkthrough in our Multi-Language Maps & Translation Guide.

How do I duplicate or clone an existing map?

From your Map Dashboard, click the More ("•••") actions menu on any active map card or table row and select Duplicate map. Layerpin starts an asynchronous background worker that copies your floorplan image, Deep Zoom DZI tile pyramid, markers, vector shapes, category hierarchies, translations, and custom fields into a fresh private draft. The new copy does not affect your live production embed, giving you a safe sandbox to stage new changes before publishing.

Can I import or export markers and content via CSV or JSON spreadsheets?

Yes! In the map editor, click the More (•••) button in the left sidebar to access Export marker CSV, Export content (full portable JSON snapshot), and Import items. You can upload .csv, .xlsx, or .numbers spreadsheets (up to 12MB) with normalized coordinates (x, y from 0 to 100), tags, interaction URLs, and dynamic metadata (field:CustomField, filter:Category). You can choose between Append to existing items or Replace existing items, complete with pre-flight error validation and a downloadable template. Read more in our Marker Import / Export Guide.

How does the Trash and 30-day retention policy work?

When you delete a map from your active library, it is unpublished and moved to the Trash tab in your dashboard. Trashed maps are retained safely for 30 days, allowing you to restore them at any time with a single click. While in trash, a map still counts toward your plan's map capacity. To free up map slots immediately, switch to the Trash tab and select Delete forever. After 30 days, expired maps and their associated image tile pyramids are automatically purged permanently.
