Categories, Legends & Filtering
Structure items across multi-dimensional filters, bind values to visual styling channels, and enable an interactive public filter rail so visitors can navigate hotspots with precision.
Multi-Dimensional Filter System
In Layerpin, organization goes far beyond a simple flat category list. The map editor features a robust, multi-dimensional Filters engine designed to turn crowded maps into focused decision-making tools. Instead of forcing every item into a single bucket, you can define independent filter dimensions tailored to your visitors' most urgent questions:
Separate architectural elevations, building stories, or event decks (e.g., Ground Floor, Mezzanine, Level 2, Rooftop Terrace).
Show real-time operational states for real estate units, meeting rooms, or booths (e.g., Available, Under Contract, Reserved, Sold).
Organize expansive master plans or convention centers into spatial clusters (e.g., Engineering Wing, Food Court, Exhibition Hall, VIP Lounge).
Open the Customize menu and select Manage Filters. For each filter dimension, you can configure:
- Filter Name: Displayed prominently in public dropdown menus and filter pills.
- Custom Icon: Choose an expressive icon from the icon picker to visually identify the dimension across the editor and public map.
- Summary Description: Optional explanatory subtitle displayed to visitors in mobile filter drawers and discovery panels.
- Drag-and-Drop Reordering: Use the drag handles to reorder filter dimensions so the most critical criteria appear first on the map.
Single vs. Multiple Selection Modes
Every filter dimension in Layerpin supports two distinct selection modes. Choosing the right mode ensures intuitive navigation and prevents contradictory search results:
Use when an item can strictly belong to only one state at a time. Visitors can select only one value, rendering as radio buttons in dropdown menus and mobile discovery drawers.
Use when items can possess multiple overlapping attributes simultaneously. Renders as multi-select checkboxes so visitors can combine multiple options freely.
Compound Query Logic (AND / OR Matching)
Layerpin applies intelligent compound matching when visitors combine filters:
Selections broaden matching. Selecting "WiFi" and "Power Outlets" displays items that offer either amenity.
Selections narrow results. Filtering by Floor "Level 2" AND Status "Available" shows only items satisfying all criteria simultaneously.
Visual Styling Sources & Map Colors
Filters do not merely show or hide pins—they can dynamically drive the visual colors of your entire map. Under Visual Styling Sources in the Manage Filters dialog, you can connect one filter dimension to each of three visual presentation channels:
Displays a prominent color-coded dot badge directly on the hotspot pin or shape center, giving visitors a quick visual cue without altering the pin icon.
Overrides the primary fill color of all marker pins with the assigned filter value color. Perfect for color-coding availability statuses or categories at a glance.
Applies the filter value color to polygon shapes, rectangles, and floor plan zones, tinting the background fill and stroke outline automatically.
Assigning Values & Safe Management
Manage choices cleanly and track how items are categorized across your map:
Each filter value features a visual color picker, custom title, and optional description. You can reorder values inside any filter using drag handles to set the exact sequence shown in visitor dropdowns.
The filter editor displays live assignment counts and interactive chips showing every marker and shape currently mapped to each value, making audit and cleanup effortless.
Assign filter values directly inside an item's Content drawer, or use the editor's Bulk Update tool to categorize dozens of items simultaneously in a few clicks.
Deleting a filter or value that is currently in use triggers a safety confirmation alert. Assignments are cleanly unlinked from items without ever deleting the pins or shapes themselves.
Public Dropdown Rail & Deep Linking
Visitor usability is front and center. When published or embedded, Layerpin renders an intuitive navigation experience:
Floats cleanly at the top of the map with smooth momentum touch dragging, mouse wheel support, and gradient edge masks. Clicking any pill opens a structured dropdown menu with live item counts.
Whenever any filter is active, a pinned Reset button automatically appears on the rail, allowing visitors to clear all active filters and restore the full map view in one tap.
Shareable Deep-Links (URL State Synchronization)
Every filter selection, zoom level, and opened info card automatically updates the browser URL parameters in real time.
Sales reps can email clients a direct link to "Available 3-Bedroom Units on Level 2" with the premier unit pre-opened. When opened, Layerpin instantly restores the exact filter state and camera position.
